    1886: early automotive engineering

Carl Benz patented his motor vehicle in 1886. Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach developed related engine and vehicle technology independently during the same era.

These separate pioneering traditions later became closely associated with the Mercedes-Benz name.

1926: a shared name and identity

The Daimler and Benz companies merged in 1926. Mercedes-Benz subsequently became closely associated with luxury vehicles, innovation and automotive engineering.

    1967: AMG begins

AMG was founded in 1967 by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. The engineering specialist developed a strong motorsport and road-car reputation before becoming closely integrated with Mercedes-Benz.

Modern Mercedes-AMG vehicles bring this performance character to a broad range of body styles.
